What is counselling for adolescents?
Counselling for adolescents is a developmentally appropriate approach that incorporates both individual and family sessions. The therapist will work with the adolescent and parents to help strengthen communication between family members. The goal is for the adolescent to feel emotionally supported by the therapist and learn how to express their feelings. While the parents will learn how to be an emotionally safe place for their children and build confidence in their parenting abilities and self-worth.
What typically happens in a session?
Sessions will typically alternate as needed: some will be with just parents and therapist, some will be with adolescent and therapist 1:1, and some will be the parents, adolescent, and therapist all together. The therapist will ensure no single member of the family controls the conversation. Rather, they will make sure all voices are heard in a safe and healthy way.
Who is this service beneficial for?
This is designed for adolescents ages 13-18 with parents who would like to participate in sessions! (Legally in Vietnam, children 16 years and younger cannot receive medical care without a parent or guardian’s permission).
