What is couples counselling?
Couples counselling is a time for two people in a committed relationship (dating or married) who want a designated time to work on their relationship. Whether they have experienced a crisis, are having frequent conflicts that never resolve well, or are wanting to prepare for the future and do some pre-marital work, this is a space where couples can grow closer together.
What typically happens in a session?
People often worry that couples counsellors will be biased to one partner. But a couples counsellor does not just see two people, they see the relationship itself. The majority of your sessions will be you and your partner together in the counseling room, talking together while your therapist looks for patterns and adjusts communication between the two of you. Occasionally, the therapist may do individual sessions with each partner, but only when it is helpful to see a clearer picture. Ultimately, this time is for YOUR relationship, so always feel free to ask for changes during a session.
Who is this service beneficial for?
Any couple (dating or married) where both partners are willing to commit to at least 5 sessions.
